The film support as a plastic source is an investigation that proposes in a performance the formal study of perforation as a technical and aesthetic element of the film. Several meters of 16mm and 35mm film from color reference strips known as “China Girl” and other 16mm close-up films were punched and their faces manually swapped to create several projection loops.

Troco offers a reflection on the material conditions of film production by experimenting on screen with the images used to calibrate and test colors. This plastic exercise not only gives new life to the found images, but also materially engages with them by cutting and recomposing, creating loops in combination with other pieces and fragments of film that have followed a fate similar to that of the other women: remaining in the margins of the film.

The main structuring operation of the film is the exchange of images through the perforations of the film, but these perforations later become containers for other perforations that result in a rhythmic iteration of images and sounds composed by Hernán Hayet that create the atmosphere of the piece. The name Troco means exchange in Portuguese, which makes it very evident how the artist focuses on the corporeal relationship with the production of analog film media, where it is necessary to touch, smell and see.
