After the displacement of all other inhabitants to different parts of the city, Amara now lives in the very last stilt house standing over the River Capibaribe. In a landscape of high-rise buildings and empty streets, her immediate neighbors are now confined indoors in dozen-storey condos or in their high-speed, bulletproof cars.
