Fatine, a 17-year-old girl, lives with her mother, NADIA, a chikha,* in Azemmour, Morocco. Having just passed her baccalaureate exams, Fatine faces a difficult choice: follow her family’s artistic tradition or choose a more conventional path with her boyfriend, who disapproves of her heritage.

*A chikha is a singer and dancer of “Aïta”, a popular form of Moroccan music.
