The short film “53” features an ensemble narrative in Creole about the massacre of São Tomé and Príncipe, which took place in 1953, at the hands of Portuguese colonial troops. In this story, the tragic, the political and the magical intertwine during the encounter between a healer and the spirit of a man slain in the genocide. Through diverse voices, memories and experiences of the last survivors and the victims’ families, a new story unfolds. (Mariana Mól)
