Sanskrit’s Nayan (नयन) means “eye”, suggesting perception. It’s also the title of a 2015 song by my Nepalese partner, Sandeep. At the time, I was photographing the Chilean landscape, activating a void without questioning my right to do so. This perpetuated a privilege I held. A decade later, I revisit and denounce these actions, exploring how language — both visual and verbal — exposes our limits and the unseen power structures that shape us.
